Startup Idea: Book Valuation and Listing Software

Summary for idea #12
Startup idea to create an application/service that scans barcode-less books, determines their worth, checks if they are already listed on Amazon, and suggests the best price for listing them. This saves time and enables the seller to increase sales volume.

I buy used books in bulk from estate sales and then sell them on Amazon. I have a warehouse of roughly 25,000 books of which I have about 10% listed on Amazon at any one time.

These books can be broadly split into three categories.

  1. Books with barcodes that are easy to scan and add to my Amazon inventory.
  2. Books that were printed before barcodes existed that I "know what they are" and have added to my inventory because I know they are valuable. Some of these books can be worth in excess of $300. I have a few hundred of these.
  3. Books that were printed before barcodes existed that I have not added to my inventory because I do not know what they are. It is a laborious task to enter them manually. I have many thousands of these. I do not know what they are worth.

I wish there was a service/app that I could use to scan books without a barcode that could tell me a) If they are worth anything b) If they are already listed on Amazon c) Tell me the best price to list them at.

I would pay for this because it would enable me to sell more books and save me lots of time typing in the details.
