Startup Idea: Payment Protection Solution for Freelance Writers
I am a writer and work with several education publishing companies. The problem with being a freelance writer is that sometimes editors do not pay the writers on time and in some instances at all.
This topic was covered in detail in the Fall Edition of YES Magazine (The Vanishing 9-to-5). It would be great to have an integrated billing solution for freelancers that would protect them from late payments (or no payments).
A software solution that would make it standard practice for a publishing company to pay a retainer to start a project and then continue to bill the company in installments.
This provides more stability and peace of mind for the freelance consultant.
Timely yet gentle reminders to the publishing company from the software would be easier to swallow and take pressure off of the writer.
Perhaps something like this already exists, however I have not heard of it and it hasn't been mentioned in any articles or blogs I follow. Late payments and non-payments are a big hassle for freelancers.
A comprehensive and easy to use software solution is much needed.
