Startup Idea: Real-time GPS Tracking Software for Chemical Transportation

Startup idea to develop a software that can integrate with existing order systems like SAP to enable real-time tracking of tank trucks carrying chemicals. The tracking is intended to monitor delivery times, streamlining communication and drastically reducing wasted time spent on waiting for callbacks and updating customers.

I'm back. Another issue where I worked (Dow Chemical, 2nd largest chemical company in the world!). I shipped tank trucks of chemicals from various plants to various cities in U.S. and Canada. We had contracts with specific tanktruck companies. Anyway, invariably several times a week a truck would not arrive at the scheduled delivery time (we needed to enter a time in our order system) and the customer would call us, we would call the trucking company (e.g. Groendyke), they would try to get hold of the driver to see what the issue was, he would eventually get back to dispatch, dispatch would call me and I would call the customer. Usually by this time, he was pulling up in their driveway. We used SAP as our order entry system. It would be nice if when the truck was loaded at our plant that they could use the Bill of lading # (Which I could see in the document flow of the order) somehow for me to go into the trucker's system (since technically we were partners as a contract was in place) and track the truck thru its GPS ( I know they had GPS) and then I could respond quicker to the customer. We were always leaving messages, waiting for call backs, etc. and when you are shipping several tank trucks/day x several (20??) customer service representatives, it was a lot of wasted time.
