Startup Idea: Accounting Software for eBay Sellers
I sell on eBay. I keep a manual spread sheet that lists:
1.) the name of the item that sold 2.) the cost of the postage to ship the item 3.) the paypal fee when someone pays me through paypal (I use paypal exclusively) 4.) eBay's fee, which can vary because of their quality-control processes, so I am often having to figure out what they're charging me today 5.) I keep a column where I record what I paid for item that I later sell, and then the amount I gained from selling. It is kind of a profit/loss column. 6.) and then I have a column where I add and subtract everything to tell me just how much I actually profited on the sale of an item. 7.) at the bottom of the columns, I add things up month-by-month for a.) my own information and b.) to make it easier to give accurate answers on my federal income taxes.
If you all are developing software, some kind of spread sheet or something that keeps track of things and that can be queried might be helpful for us small-time eBayers.
Thanks! Let us know what happens!
(if you would like a screen grab of my spread sheet, let me know. I don't mind sharing it's basic premise).
