Startup Idea: Skills-Based Rating System for Team Project Assignment
I work for a multi-national engineering firm. We have a small team of about 10 people.
Most of the time, it takes a request from the person to my manager to find out who has the appropriate skills and responsibilities to find out who should be working on the project.
To bypass my boss, or any other manager, who may not have time to delegate work; it would be nice to have a skills-based rating system.
Basically, the idea would be that everyone starts at a 0, they get jobs from the get-go that, when complete, would allow internal people to rate their responsiveness, work capabilities, satisfaction, etc.
The list of what they are rated on could be endless, but should also be ideas that drive future project work. In addition, this could help direct workload issues.
For example, Jim is the best developer, and has the highest ratings on skill, but he also has some temperamental problems - these issues would be noted in a report to upper management and addressed, but they remain in his files.
Also, it gives him an opportunity to work better with future people. On the other hand, Amanda is not a good developer, but has superior personal skills.
She is not very busy, but it typically takes her twice as long to do work. If someone on the front end can see that, they can pick their developer without going through management - and expect responses within a certain timeframe, etc.
I don't know if this exists already, but it's something I've always wanted at work.
