Startup Idea: Improvements for Home Automation Light Systems

Summary for idea #1404
Startup idea to develop a software that makes programming, renaming and integrating home automation lights, specifically Philips Hue and Lutron Caseta systems, more user-friendly. This would involve a solution to easily identify and set parameters for lights, and a feature that allows device names to propagate across different app interfaces.

i'm pretty confident there must be better software based methods to make lights in home automation be easier to program, easier to rename, easier to integrate into routines, etc. i'm speaking of both the philips hue system, for which there exists an openly shared api and the lutron caseta system (both common controllers of lighting devices). both of these systems work really impressively well in general but both have a couple of extremely annoying features. likely the most annoying is that it can be quite difficult to identify which on of the devices you're hoping to influence with any of the apps. it would seem to be a straightforward task to perhaps set the lights in a programming mode during which they would flash. in an ideal world a system to clarify which one would enable a change in phase related to position of the observer; e.g. if you are approaching a particular light it could blink faster, other you are moving away from would blink slower. this would help quite alot with correctly identifying and setting parameters for lights .a related irritation is that once you've named a device using on of the app interfaces, the names do not propagate to other app interfaces. thus, one can frequently be left with lights that can't exactly be "found" and then need to be physically reset. surely many people are working on making the software for these systems work better, but no one is there yet, and i think we have a good handle on the idea that home automation is coming. who's going to win ?.
