Startup Idea: Game Asset Management and Conversion Tool

Summary for idea #1508
Startup idea to develop a software tool that helps indie game developers organize, convert and manage their game assets efficiently. This tool should be able to handle various file formats and automate the process of conversion and organization as per predefined workflows.

I am an indie game developer, and use MANY tools. During (and after) the development and design of a game concept or game, many assets are created. There are a plethora of file types, and within those file types and their uses, varying levels of usage. For example, there may be an a few images used, but one is for Version X of the game, another is for Version Y of the game, so on and so forth (now imagine this for 100s or 1000s of files, spread across various formats for sounds, textures, 3d models, etc).

It would be nice to have a tool that "sanitized" all the used formats, so instead of having, say, 50 JPEG files, 17 PNG files, 8 TGA files... The tool would wrangle up all the source files, and convert them into a configured format for final versions. So no instead of 75 image file spread across 3 formats, all 75 would be converted into 1 format. Sanity. The same could process could be utilized for audio files, models, etc.

Automation and scripting would be quite powerful here, allowing developers to setup a workflow that allowed them to roughly work out assets, then run the tool, which would convert and organize assets as they set up in a script.
