Startup Idea: Dietary Preferences and Allergy Alert App for Outdoor Guide Companies
As I own a guiding company in the outdoor recreation industry (rafting, hiking for summer and early autumn and snowshoeing and backcountry skiing in late autumn and early winter) were are always looking for ways to improve the safety of our trips and the comfort of our clients.
One of the things I always teach and impress upon apprentice guides is the need to have high quality and ample amounts of food while in the field with clients. Currently we juggle several forms for clients to fill lout with sections that include dietary preferences and special dietary needs. Unfortunately, guides are often "paperwork averse" but are very fond of smartphone apps and tablet apps which are easily used while on the trips and in the field.
We have yet to find a reliable and simple app which would allow front-country office staff to transpose the dietary needs and food issues to the e-version apps for guides and books to access during trip prep and field meals. This would be ideal as it cleans up paper clutter and waste as well as improves safety via alerting guides quickly of any food allergies or other such issues before they get into the field. It also lets guides know if they need extra cookware (peanut allergies and even Kosher meals require separate cooking pots and pans).
If you come up with a app that does this seamlessly we would be the first to buy apps for the staff's smartphones and tablets. We have scoured the App Store and other resources trying to find an app that does this seamlessly and as yet have not found one we feel confident in using.
