Startup Idea: Fashion Drafting Software Startup Idea
My husband is a fashion designer. His work involves drafting patterns for pieces that include seam allowances and basic sizes (S, M, L). While there is software that exists to create very basic patterns, i.e. T-Shirts or a simple A-line skirt, there is not software we are aware of that he can use to draft a pattern, automatically including seam allowances. Drafting and the associated calculations are the single longest part of the process and we would jump at the chance to purchase a sophisticated drafting software for entrepreneurs. We've tried mostly with books, as there are many pattern-making books available, but most of them really don't work well and lack a comprehensive index of patterns. For instance, in one book we were able to find how to make turtleneck collars, cowls, v-necks, lapels, etc. but we c couldn't find anything on hoods. Software that exists is too expensive for a small endeavor like ours, so we still opt for hand-drafting.
