I work for an economic consulting firm and a large part of our job is using publicly available economic statistics, such as GDP or the unemployment rate, to forecast growth in specific industries for our clients.
The websites (such as BLS, Census Bureau, or BEA) that release these statistics are clunky and difficult to navigate, but many of them have APIs.
It would be useful to have an app that told us
- When the next statistic of interest will be released
- An economic release calendar for the statistics for a particular industry and
- A database that keeps track of revisions or erratas that affect these statistical time series.
The ideal software would handle time series and vintage analysis. It would also allow toggling between the relevant statistics for different industries.
