Startup Idea: Data Presentation Tool for Microsoft Formats

Summary for idea #1589
Startup idea to develop a software tool that integrates with various Microsoft data formats like Excel, Access, SQL for creating and presenting reports with a single click. The tool should enable the generation of hundreds of standard, pre-canned reports by mapping the input data fields.

I work for the government and one of the biggest problems we have is the lack of data presentation within Microsoft tools. For instance, we all have Excel and its a great tool, if you know how to use it, but there are a lot of people that use Access to create and maintain their information. Others, more familiar with software, have actually used SQL for the storing and displaying their information. Sad thing is, if they knew what a pivot table was, they could get all of the data, in a presentable format, that they would need.

So the idea would be create a presentation tool that could feed off of multiple Microsoft data formats for displaying reports. As an example, everyone keeps project financial information. How many people, how much per hour, how much per month, etc... But, since we are limited to Microsoft tools, build a presentation tool that accepts all of the information and presents information with the click of a button.

Want to know how much a day we are spending? Click the button! Want to know when we will run out of money? Click the button! Want to see the differences between one person vs the other? Click the button!

You could have hundreds of pre-canned reports that could be generated by the click of a button. They only thing that would need to exist is some sort of template for the data to be entered, or have the ability to map the fields to the data being ingested.

That would a huge help and something that would finally provide a standard report that we are seriously lacking!!.
