I work in the post closing department of a mortgage company. We store loan data in Encompass and actual documents in Paperless. The redundancy is sometimes convenient when one system or the other has issues, but most of the time it's inconvenient to navigate two totally separate systems and there's often no way to resolve conflicting information. I'm not in charge of deciding what tools we use, so maybe there's something I don't know, but I really wish we had a single piece of software that stored documents and loan metadata together.
