Startup Idea: Database App for Writers and Editors to Rate Clients

Summary for idea #1675
Startup idea to develop a database app allowing writers and editors to rate their clients. It creates a platform for users to share experiences, rate client reliability and professionalism, and also function as a networking tool. A crucial feature would be to collate and maintain a contact list of commendable clients for future reference.

I'm a writer/editor, and one of the biggest problems for me (for all of us, really) is isolation. We all talk to clients, read for clients, pitch to clients, and do estimates for clients, but we don't have a tool to coordinate. Unreasonable clients move around. Clients who don't like to pay move around. And we're mostly self-employed, so we're vulnerable.

What I have always wanted is a database app for writers and editors to rate clients. How were they at this, and this, and this point of the project? What did you charge them? Would you work with them again? Once a client is entered in the database, subsequent encounters can be noted in updates.

Flip side of this is, we would also be creating a database of contact information for good clients. For when things are a bit slow, you know. Or when you're deciding who to mail Christmas cards to. An export function might be useful, or something less 2005 than an export function. If it's a phone app, the job-fishing aspect is the bit you charge for. Our current solution is to network, which a lot of us can't do, either because we don't live in major centers or because we are introverts and that's why we work alone!.
