Startup Idea: Startup Idea: Virtual Key Vault Application

Startup idea to build a virtual key vault system comprising of backend servers, key cutting hardware, and mobile applications. Users can scan their keys using smartphones and store virtual scans on the service, essentially acting as a secure vault of all keys that can be accessed, printed and sent at any time.

I thought I would switch things up today and post a submission that was an idea of mine. I usually put my ideas into the IdeaPitch section but I felt this was worthy of being sent out as a nugget.

The idea is to build a real world virtual key vault which would consist of backend servers, key cutting hardware, and iPhone and Android apps.

You would be able to "scan" your key with your smart phone and then be able to "store" the virtual scans of those keys with the service and get them printed out at any time. The scanning would work by using 2D to 3D modeling.

The system could act as a vault for all your keys which could be excellent for business use cases well as family use cases. Some examples:

• Cleaning Business: Print and send a key to a new employee.
• Family: Print and send a key to uncle Jim.

Also, if you get locked out the service could be pretty useful.

After a little research I note that there is one competitor which helps to prove that it is not just a crazy idea. It has legs.
