I am a handi-capable person in a wheelchair and while I am at home, my home is modified to things that I might need, like a ramp when I go outside, or access to a very sturdy handrail in the bathroom or something just simple as enough room for my wheelchair to fit through the aisle. I do work fulltime, so I do leave the house everyday and my corporation is ADA compliant and there are accomodations for me to be somewhat comfortable getting around in the work place. Although, last week I had to stay in a hotel for business and even though it was a nice place and they said that they were handicap accessible; they really were not. The common spaces had a ramp and handrails and the hallways were wide enough, although a lot of the amenities like pool and weight room as well as continental breakfast room were not accessible to me. I would like to see an app that allowed me to type in the area that I would be staying in and let me search through a number of hotels in that area that are handicap accessible. One with reviews on the amenities available and accessible for people like myself. It's frustrating for handi-capable people to be told it's accessible when they really only have a ramp, handrail and an elevator. I have been researching the web for approximately 6 months for something like this. There is absolutely nothing. Personally, I resort to calling the hotel and asking my questions but some people that are in need of handicap accessibility either "make due" with the accommodations, or they just say nothing because they want no "special treatment" or just say "I'll be okay for a few nights".
