Startup Idea: Large-scale Data Processing Tool

Startup idea to develop a software that functions like Excel but can handle a significant amount of rows, surpassing the row limit of Excel. This would be useful for businesses or teams working with large data sets, like in the oil and gas industry, allowing for quick modifications without the need for SQL changes or large re-outputs.

I work in the oil and gas industry as an analyst. Our team sells a data package consisting of 1.4+ million wells in the US and Canada. We provide performance metrics, economic metrics, a ton of calculations, etc. all the way down to the well level. For example, we can calculate the breakeven price of a single well instead of a play average.

In excel, working with an xlsx is just much nicer than working with a ton of csv's. And the row limit in excel is a huge pain so we are stuck with the csv format. Some of our csv's are 50 million rows long.

It would be nice to have something like excel that could work with a very large amount of rows. It would allow us to make quick changes to the files without having to re-output everything after making some SQL changes. Only one guy is in charge of the well and production databases, so something that could get by the excel row limit would allow the rest of the team to work on them. It would only be for last minute fixes to the deliverables or analyzing something we hope to be able to deliver in the future, but it sure would make this stuff so much easier.

Our team would definitely pay for something like this. This would allow us to make changes to some of our big files, or perform some quick calcs on them. It would also allow anyone on the team to work with them since everyone can use excel.
