I am a diesel mechanic. We use a variety of different software for out troubleshooting and diagnostics. The trouble we run into is our software we use for creating work orders. There is employee login software as well as software to create our work orders which is tied together to track time. A software that would be helpful would be some sort of app that could be tied to these programs through tablets and eliminate the need for paperwork orders to be handed out and allow us (the mechanics) to update the work order information through the tablets such as our work story, tasks completed, problems found, issues resolved, parts needed for repair. This could all be updated through our tablets and sent directly to the manager or service writer who could then contact customers or the parts department. I believe this would be extremely beneficial and eliminate time walking back and forth explaining in person then to different departments. These issues have been presented to the managers and service writers. Nothing has been implemented or talked about yet.
