Startup Idea: Startup Idea for ER Digital Registration and Triage System

Startup idea to develop an application that allows patients to electronically sign in to the ER, be triaged for non-emergent issues, receive an expected wait time, and get assistance in scheduling appointments with a general practitioner. The app aims to reduce unnecessary ER visits and assist those without primary care physicians.

I work in the ER in my town, and feel that patients should able to electronically sign themselves in (especially for non-emergent issues). If a patient could use an app to give us a heads up about when they are coming in, we can give them an expected wait time, for non-emergent issues. Furthermore, if the diagnostics were linked to a doctor's permission we could simply advice many patients to make an appointment with their general practitioner, as the ER isn't appropriate for their issue, it could even handle getting appointments for those that are lacking a primary care physician, which is an underlying reason many people use the ER in the first place. Which is nuts, because you are almost always guaranteed a $800 bill to use the ER vs a small copay.
