I currently work in media. I mostly publish articles, and do free lance work that requires me to be online almost 24/7. One of my biggest problems happened early this morning around 2am. My service provide decided to do maintenance which resulted in work being halted for several hours. This is a constant hassle in my line of work and I'm sure anyone that primarily works online knows how aggravating this is.

The initial lost could of been avoided if I knew about this service outage in advance. If there was a program that could send updates or warning messages about maintenance days or scheduled outages that would be fantastic.

I'd imagine it as a type of application you could put on a phone or tablet, when the user could download and install. Then select their service provider and be given information on the company's scheduled maintenance days and alert the user of possible outages hours in advance.

This information would save those that depend on solid internet service time and money trying to figure out when their service will be restored. Yes I've tried finding this solution online but unfortunately nothing like that exists. There is currently no way to solve this problem, and the only way to get a little bit of information is trying to call the internet service provider.
