Startup Idea: eBook Compliance Checker for Publishing Companies

Startup idea to develop a software that automatically checks if eBooks meet Smashwords' distribution requirements prior to submission. The software aims to save time by eliminating manual evaluation and minimizing potential submission snags.

I work in publishing with a strong focus on eBooks. Smashwords is an aggregation company that distributes eBooks to Apple iBooks, Barnes and Noble's Nook, Kobo, and a number of other retailers. Despite being a relatively excellent site, there's no way to test that books will completely pass their requirements until after they're submitted for publication. The problem here is that clients hope for no snags in the process, meaning I have to try to manually determine if there are going to be problems when an automated system could likely scan for this based on the guidelines.
