Startup Idea: Automated Inventory Management System
My wife works in a CPA firm with a dozen CPAs, a bunch of office support staff, book keepers, receptionists, etc. When tax season approaches, insanity is close behind. THe office goes from calm, cool, and courteous, to manic. And everyone needs their office products yesterday. The problem is that the inventory of office products goes from fully stocked to empty in a matter of days, and nobody informs the resource manger. So the resource manager has to inventory product every day, and that is often not frequent enough, because the people will start hoarding supplies, in fear that some item the need will disappear just when they need it.
It would be great if there was an automated inventory system, where items are coded with magnetic strips and an RFID scanner keeps track of inventory in real time. This should be integrated with a software platform that is transparent to all office members, A desktop icon could launch a supply inventory listing location of all office products, their stock amounts, and a notification system that automatically notifies the resource manager when something is running low. The other office workers could set their notification levels, so that they can be notified if items of particular concern are running low, and then the other staff can send message to resource manager that their favorite item is running low.
This system has broad application and be used in office environments, but also in storefronts, nursing homes, church schools, etc.-anywhere that real time tracking and reporting of locations is required.
