Startup Idea: Automated Payment Processing and Reporting System

Startup idea to develop a software solution for an automotive dealership that automates payment handling and reporting. The system designed should automatically log customer name, repair order number, type of payment, and payment amount. The software should also include check and cash transaction entry. Totaling up amounts at the end of the night and sending reports directly to a printer is expected as well. A feature to retrieve past information would be an added advantage.

I work for a Ford Dealership, and when customers pay their bills, we have to swipe the credit card, take the cash or check, and then log this information onto a paper sheet. This sheet then has to be totaled up at the end of each evening, and then sent to the accounting department. It would be nice to have a computer program attached to the card reader, so that the customer name, repair order number, type of payment (visa, mastercard, amex, discover), and payment amount would be logged automatically. There would also be a small keyboard attached to it, so that you can manually enter check and cash transactions. The totals get added up at the end of each night and then the information gets sent directly to the printer. There would not need to be any memory, as once it is printed it would be the same as we have now, but having the ability to recall this information at a later date without the actual hard copies would be a nice touch as well.
