Startup Idea: Software for Material Estimation in Bricklaying Work

Startup idea to create a software program that calculates the amount of materials needed for bricklaying projects. This would based on the given area dimensions and types of materials used, aiming to reduce waste and cost for bricklayers.

I am a bricklayer and our job is thus:

We go out to a new job site, usually a customers house and they either want a patio, or a driveway or a walkway done in paving stones. One of the steps of the process is to estimate the amount of materials we will need.

Mostly this is done by visual approximation. So a great computer program would be one where I could enter the metrics of the area to be worked, the materials I will be using (gravel to provide a base, bricks, etc.) and then the program gives an estimate of the amount of material needed.

This would help keep waste down and save money.
