Startup Idea: Shared Belongings Tracker for Collective Spaces

Summary for idea #2532
Startup idea to create a software application that allows a group of shared owners, like housemates or coworkers, to track their collectively owned belongings. It would have features to check out, reserve for future use, and remind for the return of borrowed items, much like a library system but for shared personal items.

I am a grad student and work mostly at the home I share with 3 other grad students in similar fields who also work at home a lot. We have one office space that we all use and have equipped with stuff we all use. There are some reference works, but also stuff like a pocket voice recorder, a tripod, poster carriers, an industrial paper cutter, a flip over board, and stuff like that. We have a "poster presentation kit" with all the things you need for presenting science posters. The trouble is keeping track of who borrowed what. It's fine as long as it doesn't leave the office, but we have stuff that does. It's not the I-word tracking you mention you don't want ideas about: it's more like a library loan tracker, sort of. There are plenty of apps to keep track of your belongings, but we would like a group app to track our group belongings. All that is available is just for personal use and we all want to get into the same thing and just check mark we borrowed it (and preferably, reserve it for a time in the future). And we should get nagged to return the object we borrowed. Yup, looked into library and DVD tracking apps, but they are all for one use, the owner, only. We are shared owners, we all want to be able to see who is holding on to what and when.
