Startup Idea: Safety-First Route Planner Software

Startup idea to develop a safety-oriented route planner. The software will provide directions and map routes that avoid 'high crime areas' or 'ghettos', favoring safety over directness. Information such as crime rates, per capita income, and police calls can be used to determine the areas to avoid. This can be incorporated into existing mapping systems or developed as a standalone mobile app.

I think software needs to be developed that could be used when you are using one of the mapping systems for directions to a specific location that would plan a route that would not take you through "ghettos" or "high crime areas". It may not be the most direct route but it would take you through the safest route to the planned location. This could be marketed to on-star, map quest, etc or developed into an app for mobile devices. I have spoken to several "computer geeks" about how this could be developed. I think that the demographics from areas--high crime rates, per capita income, police calls, etc could be used to determine the "bad areas" of a community to avoid.
