Startup Idea: Employee Attendance Tracking and Calendar Software

Startup idea to develop a user-friendly software system that allows easy tracking of employees' time off. The system would also function as a calendar, providing visibility of everyone's availability or absence at a given time, for better management and coordination within a department.

I work at a biomedical research institute that also has people working on their PhD. We are non-profit. None of those have anything to do with my problem, which is tracking how much time people in my department take off. What I haven't been able to find is software that just lets me track how much time people are taking off and who and also use that as a calendar to let other people know where everyone is and when.

I don't need/want anything that other people have to sign up for to request vacation time. When someone tells me when he/she is going to be out of the office to take their kid to the doctor, I want to be able to easily say that person will be away for a couple of hours. It doesn't get deducted anywhere, but I just want to be able to see where everyone is at one time.
