I work in real estate accounting. My idea is for invoice processing/general ledger maintenance. When invoices come through, the beginning and ending dates of the invoice should be input. Then, when the invoice flows to the general ledger, the software should recognize the time period of the invoice and move any prepaid amount to a prepaid account and then expense it over the life of the invoice. The general ledger software would have to recognize that the invoice covers a future time period than what is currently open and then calculate the amount to prepay based on the amount of days the invoice covers and the invoice amount.

This software would be a great help to accountants and seems to be possible using '=if' functions. This software would help any accountant that has to deal with prepaid invoices, using accrual accounting principles.
