Startup Idea: Security Reporting and Tracking Database Interface
I work in security, and have for the last six years. During this time, I have been elevated from weekend guard, to full-time, to document development, to Site Director. Currently there is a hole in the market that can be filled rather easily, though at the moment it is only done rather poorly by a proprietary app that is only available if the company is contracting its security services out.
I am suggesting a solution that would be hosted by the client, so there would not be any ongoing cost to the developer and the client would have full control over where this sensitive data is stored.
The best way to think of this is as a database interface tool.
If I may suggest, for ongoing revenue purposes, licensing technicians on the client side to perform basic technical support functions is something that is not done by any security software company and would win points. In addition to this, you could contract level two or higher technical support. (The other half of my career is in technical support)
Though this may be a suggestion by some, I would submit that integrating access control and camera monitoring is both not neccessary and would harm the overall stability of the app. Both of these differ from company to company and it is impossible to create a universal solution.
This app needs to cover the following bases:
- Ability to submit daily shift reports
- Ability to submit incident reports
- Ability to customize these reports to suit the individual clients needs.
- Ability to upload these reports to a database hosted by the client. (If this can be made to be both LDAP and SQL compatible, that would be a plus, though most large companies use SQL)
- A base web interface for viewing these reports that is hosted internally by the client.
- This would be a plus, but one that would be extremely attractive to potential clients. The ability to use GPS tracking to see the activity level and patrol path of the officers.
Everything I have listed above is included in that proprietary app. Unfortunately, I moved from contract to internal security and cannot remember the name of it. It is not available from the app store, the app has to be loaded at the companies' office. I do apologize for not being able to provide that information. This is currently solved by using Excel spreadsheets with file names that adhere to a specific date/shift code and the Archer incident tracking system.
