Startup Idea: Home Temperature Monitoring for Houseplants

Startup idea to develop a program that monitors and logs room temperature over extended periods with a temperature sensor connected to a laptop. The data collected will be processed and stored locally, requiring no online synchronization.

A great thing that could be programmed would be home temperature monitoring for sensitive houseplants. It would be great if I had a program that could, using a temperature sensor that plugs into my laptop, measure and automatically keep track of the temperature in my room for months at a time, with the internal room temperature listed for each day.

This would require NO synchronization with outside online systems. All of the data would be collected, processed, and stored locally on the hard drive of the computer that runs the program within the room. Yes, I searched for "USB indoor temperature monitoring over months sensor program." (without the quotes.)I haven't solved it yet. Sorry.
