Startup Idea: Enhanced Online Ordering System for Restaurant Industry

Startup idea to develop a sophisticated online ordering platform for the restaurant industry, making it more user-friendly and similar to typical online shopping experiences. The system would integrate features like recommendations based on purchase, hence increasing overall sales.

I work in the restaurant industry. I have been prompted to use online ordering rather than call food rep. The current systems in place are rudimentary and very unsophisticated. I believe a few simple changes to the interface would make it more accessible. It should be more like shopping online rather than inputting data. Most managers I know are unsatisfied with their food purveyor's online ordering platform. I use US FOODS so that's what I'm familiar with, however, I'm sure other systems offer the same problems of interface.

I believe if the ordering systems were to mimic typical online shopping sites current customers would use it more often which would cost the purveyor less to employ someone to take the order in person. There is a lot of travel for a food rep also which this would reduce significantly. Also, you currently have to search for the item which you wish to buy. Then you just buy that item and that's it. I think if an ordering system offered products others buy in conjunction with an item (like Amazon does) sales would increase.
