Startup Idea: Uber mileage tracking software
I work as a part time Uber driver on top of my real estate job, mainly for some extra money, but also to connect with members of my community for real estate connections. I usually will drive anywhere from 5-6 hours a week. I Uber on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays morning typically because they seem to be the best days of the week for airport runs and more people seem to need rides during the early mornings.
The Uber app is great at connecting me with a potential ride and keep track of my earnings after they get paid their 40%, but what it does not keep track of that software could potentially fix is the miles for each ride. I don't know why the ability to keep track of that is not there because they know exactly where I am picking up a passenger and exactly where I drop them off, but they do not keep track of our miles. This is important because while doing your taxes every year you need to report the miles and instead of guessing, there should be a software system that can do this for us.
The ideal solution would either be something incorporated within the Uber app to allow for mile track by either clicking the button and it somehow can gauge your milage or for a different applications to be placed somewhere in your car that you can easily start and stop that will keep of the miles tracked. That is without us actually having to write it down and keep track of it because it could easily get lost.
This would be so helpful to all of our Uber drivers and even the federal government because they would be a proper system in place to track this. Not exactly, I have kept a paper record of all of the miles from the beginning of the trip until the end in a notebook. Once a week I will add them up and put them in an excel spreadsheet. At the end of the calendar year, I add up all of the miles.
