Startup Idea: Improving Healthcare Facility's Computer System for Efficient Service Delivery
I don't work there but I have an idea. Kaiser Permanente in Rockwood, Portland, Oregon, has the worst computer system ever. I'm sure they receive a lot of complaints about it.
Problem 1: Yesterday I went in to get a flu shot for me and my family members. There are 5 of us. First you check in at reception. For each of us the lady has to type in our member number and do about 3 minutes of data entry. So I was standing there for literally 15 minutes while she punched numbers on a keyboard. There is no copay for anyone so it's not like she is billing me. She's just putting in the information. I said, "There must be a more efficient way of checking me in on a computer." She looked at me like she was totally pissed at me. She has to do all this work on a horrible computer system and I am complaining.
Solution 1: Can't you have a bar code on the member card, swipe it, and then computer asks for options. During flu season there is a button that asks flu shot. She presses on button and the program records all the stuff she had to put in manually. This would take ten seconds and create a friendlier atmosphere.
Problem 2: Last week their computer went down and no one could get their prescription or get an allergy shot.
Solution 2: have a backup where if the computer system goes down their is some kind of minimal backup that would allow them to give life saving service to the patients that are there.
