Startup Idea: Workforce and Workload Management Software for Oilfield Industry

Summary for idea #312
Startup idea to develop a software solution for oilfield companies that manage employees for varying workloads. The software would track the line of pipe and project conditions, thereby estimating the duration of the job and the number of workers required. This software should also record relevant data for future reference, ultimately ensuring a more efficient allocation of resources.

I work in the oilfield. Our employees are sometimes permanent, sometimes semi-permanent. I may hire eight welders for job, they get there and I find I do not have the right amount of work for them.

They are out of a job and then if I do end up getting more pipe to work on I do not have the right amount of workers.

We currently just guess the amount of workers we need per the amount of pipe we need. In my experience, we are right only about half the time.

Although there are some statistics used, they are more or less used as word problems i.e Joe and Al work ten hours per three feet, the kind of math used to teach kids. I would like a software that tracks the line of pipe, in the conditions I encounter, then tells me how long the job will take to be finished and tell me how many worker I need. I have thought about this often.

I would think the software could just be condition, yard, desert etc, then add length and workers and record this from my company and others.Once there is a base, from multiple sources I could again put the conditions in and find out how many people I will need and how long it will take to finish.

I have tried to find something similar, no luck. I have tried recording the likelyhood myself, but I have always been off.
