Startup Idea: Interactive Artist Database Software for Local Art and Photography Shows
I work for a small advertisement and entertainment company that specializes in showcasing art and photography, with the express aim of giving local artists an opportunity to showcase their talents. The end goal is to be recruited by patrons or larger advertising companies. In essence, we are a recruitment agency for larger advertising corporations.
We are having trouble maintaining a database of entrants into the various exhibitions that we regularly hold, along with which companies (if any) have expressed any interest in a particular piece of work. As of now, the standard in the industry (in terms of running shows and exhibitions) is a software known as "Blue Ribbon", produced by Martech Systems. However, the Blue Ribbon software is intended for Fairs (county and local) to dispense prize money, entrant tags, etc.
To clarify, what I can't find is a piece of software that is not merely a database to enter names and addresses (I could use Blue Ribbon, or even Excel for that), but instead a tool that would allow me to enter names, addresses, social security numbers...and with a simple click, allow a client to indicate which companies have expressed interest in a certain artist, which work they are interested in, etc, and be able to eliminate duplicates. In a sense it is a program that would allow me to keep track of sensitive data (which only those with a password would be able to access) that would also allow me to instantaneously link this data with third parties in real-time.
In short: Because potential purchasers view artwork while walking around on the exhibition floor, ideally this would entail a mobile element where an advertiser could very quickly look up a particular artist, and with a quick click or tap could express their interest in that individual. Yes - I've looked up database programs, including other Martech programs and even trying to modify Excel to do this. However none have the ability for a purchaser to have their information pre-populated and then, while mobile, very quickly and efficiently select an artist they are interested in for follow up. We do this now by hand -- a potential advertiser hand writes the name of an artist and their work, then turns this in to the office, where we manually enter it into Blue Ribbon. This is tedious and time-consuming and do not have the staff to handle the quantity.
