Startup Idea: Automated Tool for Hotel Reservation Management
I've worked front desk, night shift at a Hilton hotel for a little over 3 years. Part of night shift involves doing the audit every night, which basically just means we're going through all the posted transactions for the day and fixing anything thats been posted incorrectly, and fixing any data entry errors in the hotels property management system before we submit the credit card transactions and flip the system date. One of the things I do that isn't necessarily required, but still needs to be done, is to check each reservation to ensure a specific field is set correctly, called the "market segmentation" value. It's contained in a drop down LOV inside the reservation, and right now the only way to access it is to manually open each reservation, one by one, and click on a separate window to see what the value is and, if necessary, change it to the correct value. Now, I AM required to do this for the reservations that are already checked in (the "in house" rooms), but I also try to go through the reservations due to arrive but have not checked in yet, because if I don't, it's something I'll end up spending about 2 hours fixing. For the "in house" rooms, I can pull a report in spreadsheet form that cuts down on the time a little, but to make any changes, I still have to manually open each reservation individually, and currently there's no way for me to pull a report for the arriving reservations. If I could do this somehow, it would save me A LOT of time and productivity every night. We use OnQ property management system at the front desk at our hotel, and I'm not sure if there's a way to easily manipulate the software itself, but if another tool could be created somehow that could do this, I think it would be just incredible. There are several other things like this that OnQ just doesn't have the capability of doing and it's extremely frustrating.
