Startup Idea: Startup Idea: In-Store Product Information App

Summary for idea #3236
Startup idea to develop a mobile app meant for improving in-store shopping experience. The app would present customers with concise, targeted information about a product when its code is scanned. The information displayed will be easier to comprehend and retain, enabling customers to make more informed decisions, create lists and save items for later.

I work at a retail home improvement environment. I have seen a remarkable uptick in customers not being able to interpret even simple signage in a store environment compared to the format they seem to be seeking from online shopping. Customers always say they are 'just looking' but then they seem to be unable to actually comprehend the signage and often ignore half of the real information about what they are looking at. A customer who has been 'looking' at a vanity for five minutes - even with info right in front of them on the sign- asks me 'What size is this, does it come in 60 inch?' Err, it says in big print there, it is a 30, and yes, it says the 60 inch is available, for 589, available in five days, all neatly written on the list of sizes. I often think if the phone-using customer could scan the product code to get a dropdown menu of choices they would actually read the concise targeted information better than the sign! They would receive the most important info from the scan like 'Yes, this sink includes the faucet.' Even if the faucet is shown on the box and says 'Includes Faucet' they ask me this question or seems surprised if I mention it. Also they ask if the price is the lowest number they see on the shelf even when the price is clearly marked under that product. All they see is the smallest number (this happens more than you think!) I was wondering if a targeted Helper app (third party) would get customers to actually focus on what they are looking at in a more concise way - save things for later, make a list.. and then they would feel more informed, involved and less angry about the process than they seem to lately with pen, paper and reading print items.
