Startup Idea: Freight Data Capture and Comparison Tool

Summary for idea #3270
Startup idea to develop a chrome/nightly extension that captures LTL shipment data during quote creation, and stores it in a database. This system would allow online retailers to provide recent shipment data to new trucking carriers, ultimately enabling better rate negotiations.

I am the sales supervisor for a $8m yearly online retailer

We ship several hundred small packages a day, and 2-6 shipments ltl (less than truckload; palletised product via an 18-wheeler).

We quoting customers for our ltl shipments, we use several sites; one 3pl site and also directly on 2 of our carriers.

Every week, new trucking carriers' sales reps come into the office, trying to earn our business. The most frustrating thing about these salesmen is I do want to work with them to find better ltl pricing - but they need examples of our recent shipment data to compare with what they could price. An example of shipment data:

2 pallets One product, class 85, 300 lbs, non-hazardous Second product, class 250, 80 lbs, hazardous

Entire shipment is going to a residential location, liftgate is needed.

Fedex price: $xxx.xx Sourtheastern price$xxx.xx

etc

What would be helpful is an app for chrome or nightly that captures the above data as my salespeople are making quotes to our customers, and stores it in a single database. This way I can easily give the sales people recent shipping data, so they can get me better rates.

I would pay $30-40 for such an app, plus a $10-20 yearly sub for compatibilty updates as the various ltl carrier's sites are updated.
