Startup Idea: Vehicle Dwellers: Crowdsource Safety, Local Laws and Resources App
I am a homeless master's student at a university. I live out of my car. This is a population (vehicle dwellers) that is much larger than most people give it credit for.
We are a population that is traditionally underserved by apps. What would be really useful is an app that allows us to crowdsource information about safety, local laws, and local resources.
Safety - stories AND LOCATION within cities where people have been robbed, harassed by police, harassed by residents, etc. Local Laws - something that allows us to compare what laws there are against vehicle dwelling. For example, in certain cities in California there is laws against sleeping in vehicles. In others, there is laws against vehicles "modified for human habitation" etc. Local resources - local agencies where public services are rendered, mail services, for example my university has "unofficial" auto services they render for students - (with all the tools!)
Having a maps based app where we could work together in real time to collaborate on these issues/find each other/find places to sleep would be great.
Thanks!.
