Startup Idea: Genealogical Research and Point of Sale Apps
I am a genealogist. One of the major problems we face is having software that we can easily track a daily log of research on. I suppose a forms based database app would work, one that can transfer information into a major program like Roots Magic or Family Tree. I know you said no scanning apps, but that would be an ideal addition to this app I think, as rare documents are critical to our research.
Ideally the app would log time began and ended, client name, type of work done (research, writing, travel, etc.) individual researched, family group researched, location, contacts at location, cost of services, copies made, etc.
Another useful app would be one that is designed for sales on client end. A Form that my clients could fill out when they are inquiring about services, that has also a copy of the contracts that they can digitally sign, and then pay for using pay pal or another online pay service. I know this would be useful for many genealogist, as most genealogist fail to thrive because of a lack of tracking their expenses, time, and not having suitable contracts in place. Secure e signatures would have to be included.
I have no idea how much people would pay for either of them, but the Point of Sale wOne could be adapted to many independent contract situations. Oh yes, there is absolutely nothing for our profession out there except genealogical tree apps. point of Sale apps are not designed to track paid research either. Family History takes time, and is very expensive to conduct.
