Startup Idea: Mobile Inventory Management System

Summary for idea #3418
Startup idea to develop a lightweight, mobile inventory management system. The application should be capable of logging items (such as parked cars) via a smartphone or tablet. Key features would include file uploads/downloads through Wi-Fi, easy updates to the inventory, along with backup provisions. Intended to work for small businesses, this solution will replace outdated, monolithic devices, and streamline inventory management processes.

I work at a paid parking lot for an airport. Every night we have to input license plates into a handheld computer that logs them by Lot and space number. However, it's incredibly outdated. The handheld itself is about 6 pounds and it's the only device that will work with the software. And the software only works on a point-of-sales program we no longer use. We literally have an old desktop computer just for this device.

It would be great to have a mobile inventory system that would fit onto a phone or tablet. Of course, it would not only work for parked cars but for other small businesses that can't afford to outsource inventory management. For my purposes, it would need to be able to upload a file, via wi-fi preferably, and download that same file to another phone. Then the next day our inventory would only need to be updated, not completely redone.

It would also be great to have some built in back-ups. Currently, if you press 'end' early on my job's device you have to go back to the computer, upload the data, then re-download the data before you can continue with your inventory.
