Startup Idea: Digital Wallet for Insurance Policies
I work for a major US insurance company. Unbelievably, a lot of people do not keep track of who their insurance company is, and then when they have a situation where the paperwork is inaccessible (catastrophe like the recent flooding in Louisiana, house/apartment fires, or locking their keys in their car), they don't know who to contact to even begin the claims process. A further complication can be the number of insurance companies with similar names or acronyms (ex. Farmers, Farm Bureau, State Farm, Texas Farmers, etc.)
My suggestion would be a digital wallet for mobile that contains a summary of their insurance policies. For security, it should obviously contain a password or other gateway to prevent access by others.
I would say each profile should include:
- Insurance Type (Home, Auto, Life, Pet, etc.)
- Current Insurance company for that type.
- Policy number.
- Phone number to their claims dept. 4b. Phone number for their agent.
- Website link (since most major carriers have online claim-filing)
- Deductible (i.e. the amount they will be responsible for on a claim.)
From there, it would repeat 1-6 in a new profile for each type.
An option to dial the claims phone # directly from the profile would be ideal.
I know most companies have their own apps to download, but how many people do you know who have every single insurance policy all through the same company? By being able to identify - with just a few clicks/taps - the correct company for the exact situation, it could reduce stress in an already bad situation and get that person the help they need sooner.
