Startup Idea: Reviving Streamus: A YouTube Music Streaming Tool for Desktop

Startup idea to revive and improve a once popular YouTube music streaming tool called Streamus, designed for desktop use. The app offered seamless, tab-free music streaming directly from the Chrome browser, a feature much admired by desktop workers. With a potential audience among indie music aficionados and potential for monetization, something revived version of Streamus could be our next big project.

I followed and used Sean Anderson, San Luis Obispo, Calif and Cormant developer, creation of Streamus, which streamed YouTube music on chrome. It enabled me to work on my desktop and with a simple click of the Streamus (S) in the Chrome bar, I was able to listen to my playlist of Youtube generated music, with no tabs, a minimalistic design and memory usage. YouTube tried to buy him out (see TechCrunch articles and Reddit subreddits on Streamus) after he hit 300,000 users in several months time. It's a perfect music player for the desktop worker. When he turned them down after trying to comply with an impossible TOS (ads don't display on desktop Chrome browser but they insisted he display ads in video) and turned down an offer of employment, he shut it down. It was an amazing build. It's open-sourced on GitHub. I have moaned and groaned since the shut down as being a desktop worker was so much more enjoyable with music streamed from my Chrome browser. I know there is a need by Indie folks for a platform like Streamus to bring their music to more people. And I know from my research that they would pay. Sean Anderson got a huge raise to go back to work full-time at Cormant but I suspect his pain over the loss of Streamus would motivate him to return to work on it if there was a team, crowdfunding, and monetization. However, that said, someone needs to bring back an aaceptable version of Streamus...please.

I am also working on problems that affect folks who live in small rural towns and could be making money in the internet economy. I would be interested in discussing those in more detail after I have completed some industry research. I am focused on this arena because I believe that living in the countryside is far better for one's mental and physical health but that economics remain an obstacle, as does group synergy, shipping and some other factors. However, now that the internet is 20 plus years old, those who live rural should be able to solve that economic income problem using the connectivity and commerce of the internet. This is my passion.
