Startup Idea: Allergen Alert App Development Idea

Startup idea to create a mobile app that scans product UPC codes and checks ingredients against a database to alert users of potential allergens. This would involve developing image recognition capabilities and a comprehensive database of product ingredients.

My family has allergies and reactions to certain ingredients in products.

It'd be great if you could create a database, and I could scan an item's UPC code, and you could tell me if there's anything in it we should be afraid of.

I'd imagine you could build up your database of items using image recognition, simply take a photo of the back of an item and have the computer save the ingredients to a database.

Then each ingredient can be looked up and checked for harmfulness.

So ideally I could just open an app, scan the upc, and see if it's safe. There is one website that does something like this, but you need to hand-type the item, and it feels very manually curated, so the chances are very high that they don't have the exact item I'm looking at.
