Startup Idea: Real-Time Vehicle Tracking System for Transportation Companies

Startup idea to develop a software-based real-time vehicle tracking system targeted at transportation companies. The system should have features such as enabled all the time (cannot be disabled by drivers), have a failsafe when regular communication methods (like cellphones) are unavailable, and should help with coordinating load timings and maintaining accurate logbooks.

I am a general manager and dispather for a transportation company. They do make trackers that you can put in the semi trucks but the truck drivers can turn them off anytime they want. I do not know if they have a device that sort of works like On Star. The trucks they drive belong to our company. Everyday we have to do location checks to see where they are by a cell phone call or an email from them. We do not like calling a driver while he is driving, it could cause an accident. In order to book their next load we need to know the timing on the load they are on. If you wait too long to pick up the next load the truck might not get loaded that day and will be sitting running the truck all night. If they are done with their load to early for the next load they again will be sitting. It is a waste of their time and ours. It would also help with making sure the log books are honest. I do know they have electronic log books. There have been times when a driver cell phone died, driving down the road can't stop to charge it and we have no contact with him. If we could have our own system where we could track them and they could not disable it and it was on a personal level unlike On Star it would make both the office staff and the drivers jobs so much easier. The brokers we book the loads from could be updated in a faster manner. Yes, we would purchase this product and most of the transportation companies in the world would want them.
