Startup Idea: Retail Management Software for Item Returns and Organization

Summary for idea #3608
Startup idea to develop a software solution for retail employers, especially grocery stores. The software would keep track of items that were temporarily unplaceable due to a lack of space or product discontinuation. It would also record the reason, date of attempt and facilitate communication among staff members to minimize inefficiencies and wasted time.

I work in retail. I used to work at a grocery store and anything that needed to be put back was shoved into a cart or put in the fridges if they were cold until we could return them to their spots.

A main issue that I found was that sometimes there would be an item that didn't fit anywhere (discontinued or no spot at the moment) and we would just leave it in the cart for someone else to try to find next. No communication.

Which of course would just lead to the same frustrations later when they realized that they couldn't put it back either and it's just a cycle.

I wished that there was a system in place where we could record things that had no place, why we couldn't put it back, and the date that we tried so that people would know when and if to try again.

Spending 30 minutes finding one item's spot isn't efficient. If I was a big chain grocery store, I would pay for this to make things go smoother as long as the software wasn't too expensive. No and we don't. We just put thing back and if we can't find it, throw it back in the cart and leave it for someone else. There is no way around it.
