Startup Idea: Real-Time Parking Enforcement Software

Startup idea to develop a real-time parking enforcement system. It transmits data of parked vehicles from the parking lot kiosk to the PDA devices of parking enforcement officers, eliminating the need for manual printouts and checking. This system aims to increase efficiency, accuracy and time management on the job.

I work as a parking enforcement officer. One of our parking lots is a pay-by-the-hour system. In order to ensure that the vehicles parked there have paid, and to find those that haven't, we have to print off a physical list of all the vehicles that are currently parked there (drivers input their license plates into a kiosk while paying). This process is slow, inefficient, wastes time, and often inaccurate due to delays in the system.

All PEO's are issued a PDA that allows us to check vehicle license plates in other situations (such as to check citation history, if it was issued a permit, etc). I would very much like to see a system where the data stored in the lot kiosk are transmitted to the PDA's and allow us to check in real-time, as opposed to the current system of having to manually print off a vehicle list. I think this would greatly increase our efficiency and use of time on the job.
