Startup Idea: Startup Idea for Document Repository Tracking and Versioning System

Summary for idea #3841
Startup idea to develop a software tool for tracking and versioning documents. This tool should act as a live document repository, have robust search functions, allow for tagging colleagues and include the ability to add project specifics as metadata. It should be easy to use and improve upon current solutions like Dropbox.

We are a small (less than 20 employees) software firm that specializes in learning, assessment, and engagement systems for large enterprise clients. So, funny that I'm responding with a software problem, yet...

We have yet to find a good software tool that acts as a live document repository tracking and versioning system. We use bitbucket for code, Jira for project tracking, and yet the best solution we have for storing and sharing all the versions of presentations, documentation, etc. that we have is Dropbox and it's inelegant at best. It's search functions are poor, there is no ability to add project or other pertinent details as metatarsi, etc.

Yes, yes, yes -- if I had a software tool through which I could upload documents easily from my desktop, add a short comment as a description, and tag colleagues who might use it, I'd pay for it right now. We are a small company and we have hundreds of versions of presentations, thousands of necessary art files, and more. We can't be the only people with this problem.
