Startup Idea: Startup Idea for Improved Nanny Matching Platform
I am a nanny, and matching nannies to families is currently pretty random. You can get a decent match if you use agencies, but they take a pretty hefty percentage so most people don't use them.
The most common website to find nannies and child care is care.com. Because there isn't a useful way to search for a GOOD match, everyone just presents themselves as generically as possible. To the point where most families don't write anything at all. They just check checkboxes saying they like things like: arts and crafts, playing games, etc. ALL children like crafts and games.
I am an atheist that like science and math, but unless I am using my personal networks to find jobs I end up working for Mormons, New Earthers, etc. OTOH, I know families who are weird enough that it is hard for them to find a care giver that would match (They want nannies who would go to Burning Man with them, and aren't going to call CPS for alternative lifestyles). I also have friends who are messy transwomen and they have been putting off hiring a housekeeper because it's a crapshoot if they'll get transphobic people coming into their house.
What I think really needs to happen is like an OKCupid for child care, home care, etc. Where you answer questions about yourself, and can be shown the actual BEST nannies or jobs for your needs. I have used care.com which currently is the market leader. I solve the problem now by getting jobs through my social network (and keeping the same job for the past three years now).
