Startup Idea: Allergen Identifier Shopping Assistant App

Startup idea to develop a mobile application that helps users identify allergens present in their shopping list items. The app should also be able to suggest alternative brands which don't contain specified allergens, aiding individuals with food sensitivities/allergies.

I help out occasionally in at daycare that is run by my friend. While I don't personally work with the kids, I do help with errands such as shopping for snacks. Some of the kids have allergies to things like peanuts which are relatively easy to avoid.

But there are others who are sensitive to food additives like sulfates, which usually aren't clearly labels on most snacks. An app that lets me identify allergens present in products from a given shopping list or that can recommend specific brands of a snack/product which doesn't contain allergens from a list which I can specify would help out a lot.

And I can see this being great for people who have personal sensitivities to certain items. For example, someone who is gluten sensitive would be more confident shopping for products in a non-specialty store when armed with this app.

The closest thing I've come across was basically Googling and hoping I could find information on the specific brand I was looking for.
