Startup Idea: Sales Trend Analytics for Online Vendors

Startup idea to develop affordable software that captures and analyzes sales trends for online retailers. The tool will track sales across various parameters such as time and different product lines, with an easy to understand graphical interface. It will also facilitate comparison of the effectiveness of different marketing tactics.

I sell products online via Amazon and eBay. There are a few software packages that help with managing inventory and finances but very few affordable options when it comes to capturing metrics as to which products and services sell best and when.

It would be helpful to track sales trends and be able to organize specifically by month, week, day, or even by hours in the day.

Analysis of the trends would help with pricing and which services or products should be more heavily pushed and when. Collecting such data should also allow simple comparison if different tactics were tried.

For example how many sales of product X were sold on last Tuesday from 10-2 compared to this Thursday from 10-2 while running different promotion to see the effectiveness of the promotion for the specific product or of it had any unintended sales impact on other products.

These reports should be graphic based and simple to follow for anyone with out financial or marketing experience. As mentioned in your criteria, I don't care about managing inventory. I have other software for that.

I'd like to know sales trends specifically and to be able to run simple correlation reports from that data.
